Entourage Star Gives to the Sea

PC: [Oceana]

"The sea giveth and the sea taketh away" is a saying that is often used but rarely contemplated. Living in an age of environmental transition, it is important to consider the impact we, as humans, have on the environment. That is why Entourage's Adrian Grenier is working to inspire people to go green. He is lending his support to Oceana, a non-profit organization focused on the conservation of ocean and beaches, fisheries, and marine sanctuaries. Grenier is an actor who believes his "responsibility on a human level [is] to give and contribute" and has teamed up with Nautica and Ocean to see first-hand how human consumption is affecting the ocean.

Watch a short movie about his journey observing and swimming with bluefin tuna:

Inspired by the cause and eager to make a difference, Grenier created a limited edition t-shirt that will benefit Oceana. The tee, made of organic cotton, depicts a school of fish that make up the image of an anchor.

Qi supports Grenier's dedication to raising awareness about this important issue. Adrian was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to swim with bluefin tuna, a species threatened by extinction due to overfishing. Our consumption, paired with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, has left the bluefin tuna species in grave danger.

Do you part to aid in the clean up of the Gulf by purchasing any of our feather styles from the Holiday 2010 collection or the Ascension Bird shirt. We will donate proceeds from these items to the National Wildlife Federation's on-the-ground efforts to restore the fragile ecosystem.

As Climate Change Week NYC 2010 comes to an end, Qi would like to take the time to support the hard-working individuals who keep this global problem at the forefront of our minds. Climate Change Week ends September 30th and all of the upcoming events are open to the public. On September 28th, Rosina Bierbaum will give a lecture at NYU, and on the 29th and 30th, the Urban Green Expo will be held in the Metropolitan Pavilion.

Here are some pictures that highlight this year's Climate Week:

Here at Qi, we've joined the Green Movement and are dedicated to working towards a sustainable future. Our use of cashmere promotes environmental health by using cashmere, a renewable resource that ensures profitability for farmers, in an efficient and eco-friendly way.

In addition to reducing our carbon hoofprint, we also give assistance to organizations that are passionate about helping the environment. In the spirit of our Spring 2011 collection and in light of the tragic BP oil spill, we hope to aid in the restoration of the Gulf by lending support to the National Wildlife Federation. We are donating proceeds from our feather garments and our Ascension Bird shirt to the NWF, as well as selling a reusable tote bag that serves as a reminder to reduce your impact on the environment.

In celebration of Climate Change Week, have a look at our feathered styles:

Qi hopes that you are having a happy Climate Change Week. Tell us what are you doing to Go Green! We'd love to hear from you...

Fashion Gives Back

Fashionistas are taking the city by storm for Fashion's Night Out and you can bet that there will be a slew of fashion lovers carrying around tote bags. In a sea of designer handbags, a tote bag stands out as a practical and durable choice, however, if that's not enough of an incentive to carry one perhaps giving to a good cause can sway you. Glamour commissioned designers such as Toni Maticevski, Prabal Gurang, Suno, and Genevieve Jones to design Fashion Gives Back tote bags that will benefit the National Audubon Society's cleanup efforts. National Audubon Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and wildlife. Each bag has a distinct style, from black ink spills to a black and red silhouette. They are on sale at Henri Bendel for $68 dollars each.

Similarly, Qi has designed a tote bag that will give aid to the National Wildlife Federation. The NWF is a non-profit organization works to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for future generations. We have created the Mother Nature tote bag to incite change. Featuring quotes such as, "Mother Nature loves you, love her back," the bag serves as a reminder to join the green movement and to do your part to protect the environment. 10% of the proceeds will assist the NWF's efforts to clean up and restore the Gulf.

As part of Qi's FNO, we will send you a free Mother Nature Tote bag on all orders over $200. So visit our online store at qicashmereshop.com and get shopping!

Oil, Oil Everywhere...

The oil leak may have been stopped, but the controversy continues. Vogue Italia has attracted criticism for mixing politics and fashion in their August issue’s “Oil and Water” shoot. Photographed by Stephen Meisel, the shoot stars Kristen McMenamy, betrothed in an oil-soaked feather gown, who appears incapacitated and washed up on shore. Editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani admits that the shoot is “shocking to see” but that the message being conveyed is very important. She reminds readers to “[b]e careful about nature” and “take more care about nature.”

However, some people do not share Sozzani’s perspective on the shoot. Many residents of the Gulf argue that Vogue Italia is cheapening a grave, life-altering catastrophe by glamorizing it. Take a peek at the photos below and decide for yourself whether the magazine did a tasteful job in mixing art and fashion with social commentary or if you feel Vogue Italia should have steered clear of the serious issue: [Styleist]

Here at Qi, we tend to agree with Franca Sozzani—the pictures, while provocative, depict the environmental tragedy in a creative and realistic way. We commend Vogue Italia for making the disaster a global issue and preventing it from going unnoticed. Qi especially approves of the message Sozzani intended to send—a reminder to examine our society’s environmental impact and make conscious efforts towards a sustainable future.

This season Qi is celebrating the increasing social concern for environmental conservation. Our Holiday 2010 collection features pieces that are adorned in beautiful feathers. We will be donating 10% of the proceeds of the feathered garments to the National Wildlife Federation to help aid in the clean up of the Gulf. Qi is also saying no to plastic and encouraging others to do the same. We created the Mother Nature tote bag to serve as a fashionable reminder to save our planet. With its inspirational phrases such as, “Mother Nature Loves Us, Love Her Back” and “Make A Change, Start A Trend, Go Green,” we aim to inspire everyone to make changes that will benefit the earth.
