Even though it may not feel like it, spring is here! And while the flowers are waiting to bloom, the feather trend is still in full plume.
WWD recently covered the feather trend on the fall 2011 runways. Fluffy feathers were used in inventive ways at the fashion shows of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Jason Wu, and more. Whether they were fully covering dresses, layered on bodices or used as details on skirts, feathers flew down the runway.

The Academy Awards nominated film, Black Swan has received a lot of media attention about its costume designs. To the delight of the fashion world, the sisters of Rodarte were hired to create the ballet costumes. Designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy worked to balance style and functionality when designing the tutus, all while remaining true to the film's intentions:
“We had an affinity for the subject matter,” noted Kate Mulleavy to the Huffington Post. “We had never done a film. … This would be a dream job in terms of just getting to make tutus. But, then we had, I think, something that allowed us to add to [and] access the psychology of the film in a different way, which was understanding the darker nature and more of the twisted kind of underbelly of that world.”
Now, controversy has erupted over the fact that the Rodarte sisters were not listed as the film's costume designers--the credit was assigned to a different costume designer, Amy Westcott. This means that should Black Swan get an Oscar Nomination for Best Costume Design, the Rodarte sisters would get cheated out of any credit.
In an interview with NY Magazine, Amy Westcott asserts that the Rodarte sisters only designed 7 looks--not all them.
Westcott explains, "The core ballet was designed by Zack Brown (for American Ballet Theater), and my department and I added some feather detailing to assimilate them with the White Swan."

Hey everyone! It is Lauren, an intern here at Qi, and while I am studying abroad in Italy I wanted to share a few fashion treasures that I've found here.
Patrizia Pepe is a boutique in Florence, Italy that catches my eye on daily basis with its interesting store windows and beautiful clothing. The company was founded in Florence in 1993 and is surely influenced by Italian style. The minimalism of the clothes make them really wearable on a day to day basis.
I saw many similarities in the Fall/Winter collection with Qi's own Fall 2010 line. Both collections featured military-inspired clothing, with structured silhouettes and brass buttons.
In addition, Patrizia Pepe and Qi both offered puffer jackets and knit capes to keep warm in style.
Finally, there were some similarities in the way the two brands use leather. Patrizia Pepe offered a number of leather jackets and leather blazers, while Qi has been using leather in skirts.
Take a look at Patrizia Pepe's most recent ad campaign--it is quite clever! Photos courtesy of Patrizia Pepe
Love Magazine transformed models into superheroes for a short film called "Modelgeddon." The film's concept was created by director James Lima who had the girls strut, stamp and slide in stilettos among a pile of rubble. Clad in Versace, models Alessandra Ambrosio, Claudia Mason, Ana Beatriz Barros, and Julie Orden show off their butt-kicking abilities, all while rocking fierce hair and make up.
Check out the video below:
Qi's Fall 2010 line was inspired by the superpowers of fashion, too! The concept behind the photoshoot was to demonstrate the power of women and the strength and influence Qi's muse has in her world. Between being fashion-forward, self-assured, and elegant, our muse has the ability to conquer the world and understands the power of giving back.
Legendary model, Kate Moss, has unveiled promo shots from her fourteenth--and final---collection for Topshop. Much like her previous collections, the clothing is trendy yet bohemian, and captures Moss' typical style of not looking like she tries too hard. The clothing has a 70s feel with paisley patterns, but Moss mixes it up with fringe, sequins, and feathers.
Qi's collection features many of the same trends as these clothes.
Naturally we offer a wide selection of comfy sweaters: Qi's Raven Cardigan
And in our Fall 2010 collection we have many feathered styles: The Penelope Dress

Best-selling author and fashion designer, Lauren Conrad, took a moment out of her busy schedule promoting her latest books, Sugar & Spice and Style, to give an interview to FabSugar.
For fall, Lauren recommends a great coat and a nice pair of boots" because you could be wearing anything underneath and nobody knows."
She also reveals that her fall fashion obsessions are sweaters.
She says, "In fall it's always sweaters. I am always out hunting for sweaters...because after summer and wearing almost nothing, it's kind of nice to get cozied up in a great sweater."
Watch the interview below:
Qi is on the same page as Lauren. This fall we are all about the coats--and sweaters, of course!
