Military Madness

A-TEN-HUT! The military trend is demanding everyone's attention this season. Designers have shown military-inspired garments down the runways for the last few seasons. But this fall, the classic military styles are tough and edgy, while the silhouettes and ornamental details--such as big buttons and epaulets--give off an air of femininity.

Take a look at these functional and understated pieces that were shown for Fall 2010:

Lucasfilm released this publicity photo showing Anankin Skywalker in 3-D technology

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away movies were not shown in 3-D. Now, Star Wars travels to the third dimension. Lucasfilm announced that the Star Wars films will soon be released in 3-D. All the films--Episode One through Episode six--will hit theaters in 2012. Industrial Light & Magic is overseeing the conversion process and promises the series' fans that the effects with be "cutting edge."

John Knoll, visual effects supervisor, for Industrial Light & Magic told the Associated Press that the trick to having the effects turn out really well is "a matter of taking the time and getting it right."

Putting modern touches on an old-time classic is something Qi does time and time again. Like the film industry, we look towards the future to add a modern twist to traditional knitwear.

Here at Qi, we've joined the Green Movement and are dedicated to working towards a sustainable future. Our use of cashmere promotes environmental health by using cashmere, a renewable resource that ensures profitability for farmers, in an efficient and eco-friendly way.

In addition to reducing our carbon hoofprint, we also give assistance to organizations that are passionate about helping the environment. In the spirit of our Spring 2011 collection and in light of the tragic BP oil spill, we hope to aid in the restoration of the Gulf by lending support to the National Wildlife Federation. We are donating proceeds from our feather garments and our Ascension Bird shirt to the NWF, as well as selling a reusable tote bag that serves as a reminder to reduce your impact on the environment.

In celebration of Climate Change Week, have a look at our feathered styles:

Qi hopes that you are having a happy Climate Change Week. Tell us what are you doing to Go Green! We'd love to hear from you...

Qi's Coterie Booth

The biggest names in fashion have headed over to New York's Fashion Coterie trade show to unveil their Spring 2011 lines. We wanted to give you an inside look at our booth! Our spring line is inspired by the allure of nature and focuses on four essential elements--Sky, Earth, Water, and Air. We decorated our booth to go along with the theme of nature and we are really happy with the end results:

Our sales manager, Jessica Bortko, finished her first day at Coterie today and will also be there for the next two days. She did a fabulous job translating the inspiration behind our Spring 2011 line through the booth's interior decor. The driftwood Qi sign, the planters full of grass, and the quaint log stools create the perfect ambience and sets off the clothes nicely. What do you think?

Spike Lee Heads Back to Louisiana

[Charlie Varley/Sipa Press]

Spike Lee returns to New Orleans for his second HBO documentary to look at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The new, two-part film, “If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise” is the sequel to “When the Levees Broke”—a documentary that exposed the death, devastating loss, and economic turmoil that plagued New Orleans after Katrina. Now, Spike Lee returns to explore the social, political, and economic factors that are holding Louisiana back from a full recovery. The film looks at the evolution of New Orleans five years after Katrina struck, and follows the city from its 2010 Super Bowl victory to the BP oil spill. The documentary features a moving montage of footage depicting the leak spewing more than 60,000 gallons of oil per day into the Gulf.

Originally, Lee had wanted to end the film on a positive note—with the big Super Bowl win. However, when the BP oil spill struck he had to rethink the entire structure of the film.

Lee told the LA Times, "We had to rethink everything. We had to deal with the biggest oil disaster of the world. And the fact that they didn't want to speak about it made it even a bigger story."

Lee’s mission is to expose the truth behind the disaster and how it could have been prevented. The movie is his response to the injustice that led to the suffering of so many American citizens.

Lee states, "It's about justice, it's about right and wrong. I love this country, and these people are just screwing it up over greed. It's a disgrace. What we stress is that 11 people died on that oil rig over a company's decision to cut corners."

Here at Qi, we are planning to tune in this Monday and Tuesday night to watch “If God is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise.” We are dedicated supporters of the National Wildlife Federation’s efforts to clean up the Gulf and are interested to see what the residents have to say about the recent disaster.

On sale now are the feathered garments from our Holiday 2010 collection. We are donating 10% of the proceeds from these styles to the NWF.

Also look out for our silk Ascension Bird Shirt from our Spring ’11 line, which will benefit the NWF, as well.

Do your part to help clean up the coast and better the lives of those afflicted by the oil spill.

Caravan's FNO with Qi

Qi celebrated Fashion's Night Out with Caravan at the Sky Room Times Square Lounge on Friday. Our marketing manager, Kosi Harris, attended the event and had a blast! Caravan's rooftop pop-up shop was the perfect place to raise money for the New York City Aids Fund. All proceeds benefitted this incredible cause and we were so excited to be a part of it. Our Mother Nature tote bag was on sale and coordinated perfectly with the Junk Food graphic tees that were on sale.

The star-studded event was attended by Tiffany Thornton, Kendra Wilkinson, Gillian Jacob, MTV host Lenay Dunn, Jeannie Mai, Samuelle Green, Matt White, Keisha White, the Neon Trees Band, and many more.

Also in attendance was Glee's Jenna Ushkowitz and Entourage's Dania Ramirez--both hit shows that have recently featured Qi New York.
